One of the lessons I have learned here at First Baptist is the significance of the nominating committee in the life and spiritual health of a growing church. Serving on this committee is a challenging but rewarding experience. It was a joy to see Todd Hendren lead this committee and a joy to see God put the pieces together as, one by one, church members accepted various responsibilities of ministry.
One of the many blessings that flowed from the 2019 efforts of the nominating committee is the selection of Jason Covington as Sunday School director. The committee and your pastors consider the Sunday School ministry to be critical to the spiritual health of First Baptist, as these small groups are where the Spirit of God uses Bible teachers to get out Bible truths into the hearts and minds of our members and guests. Over the next few weeks, we will be working with Jason to bring some new life and energy into this ministry.
Our nursery and children’s departments have been seeing considerable growth in Sunday School, and our teachers are responding to this amazingly well. Our adult classes—with a few exceptions—have become stagnant with very little growth. For starters, I challenge everyone, myself included, to be diligent in inviting those whom God puts in our path to be part of a Sunday School class. I know that sounds simple, but it works!
You will be seeing Jason and our church staff begin to work in growing and improving our Sunday School ministry. We ask for your support and your prayers in this effort.
In Christian love, John
