One hundred and seventy-five years! What a milestone for our church!

Since the time that the congregation of First Baptist Church, Batesville, MS formed in 1843, our city, state and country have experienced a dizzying array of events. Think about all that has happened: the Civil War, Reconstruction, the Great Depression, two world wars, the Civil Rights movement, the Korean, Vietnam and Gulf wars—just to name some of the major struggles of our history. Think about all of the changes that have occurred during that time in the economy, in industry and technology, and in the culture. Would the Christians who were founding members of this church even recognize this country if they could see it today?

Through it all—through the hard times and the good times—there has been one constant. One fundamental truth has not changed and will never change, and that is the gospel–the good news that God saves sinners who come by faith to the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ and receive that glorious gift of eternal life!! And through these 175 years, through all of the changes and all of the spiritual rebellion in our country, First Baptist Church, Batesville has remained faithful to the message that Jesus Christ is “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). Likewise, though many, many churches have lost their way during the past decades and fallen into apostasy, our church has also remained faithful in adhering to the inspiration and inerrancy of the Word of God.

Thus, the milestone of 175 years is indeed a time to celebrate God’s faithfulness to this church. We encourage everyone to make an effort to reach out to out-of-town members and former members to be part of this very special moment in the life of our church. Former pastors and staff members will be in attendance and will be participating in leading portions of our worship service.

Below you will find a listing of the ways we will be worshipping and enjoying special fellowship at the Sunday, August 12 celebration.
