My Dear People
How many of you recognize the names of Shamma, Shaphat, Igal, Palti, Gaddiel, Gaddi, Ammiel, Sethur, Nabbi or Geuel? No, they are not members of the Israeli national soccer team. These ten, along with Joshua and Caleb, were the twelve original spies that were entrusted with the responsibility of spying out the Promise Land. You know the story. Ten only saw the problems and roadblocks that were ahead. Joshua and Caleb saw the potential and possibilities. The majority report was one of unbelief and “status Quo” (Latin for “the mess we are in”). The minority report exemplified faith, vision, and God-like confidence. We have forgotten ten of the original spies, yet the testimony and influence of Joshua and Caleb continue even today.
I was invited recently to return to the first full-time church I served to preach their Homecoming. I served the Beulah Baptist Church in Myrtle, Mississippi from December of 1981 until February of 1985. Though I have been back on other occasions, it was good to renew some long friendships. One lady came up to me that I led to the Lord almost 40 years ago. It was such a blessing to know she had remained faithful to the Lord and His church. Others were there when I came as their Pastor and are continuing to serve the Lord. As I reflected on the day, I was reminded that Pastors come and go, but the real strength of the church is found in the faithfulness of the people. Paul’s closing admonition in the resurrection chapter of 1 Corinthians 15 is, Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (v.58).
Steve Green, in his song Find us Faithful, has the following lyrics:
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey
Oh may all who come behind us find us faith-ful
May that be the testimony of each of us. Ya’ll are a blessing to serve.

Dear Church Family,
Using a designated gift and some funds in the audio-visual budget, Thom Hunter Pratt helped us back in 2020 to develop a small studio for recording Bible studies and preaching. The Lord has blessed this little studio, and truths from His Word are flowing out across the world through Vimeo, Facebook, and YouTube.
I am excited to share with you that a new series from Dr. David Ball will be available beginning this November through our Vimeo, Facebook and YouTube platforms. The series is entitled “The Logic of the Crucifixion of Jesus,” and Dr. Ball carries students through breathtaking Bible truths connected to the “why” of the crucifixion.
Many of you will remember Dr. Ball’s book The Crucifixion and Death of a Man Called Jesus: From the Eyes of a Physician. Many of you will also remember the “road show” show that followed, which lasted more than 10 years, blessing audiences in churches in 15 states thanks to the dedicated crew that traveled with Dr. Ball and his family.
The new material gets into a question that Dr. Ball was often asked, which is: “Why does it matter how Jesus died?” The answer to that question is the driving force behind this new series, as Dr. Ball very powerfully presents the answer, showing the theological basis for the crucifixion and the personal application of the cross in the life of the Christian.
We will begin weekly uploads of this 20-part study on Monday, Nov. 2, through the First Baptist Church Facebook page. If you don’t do Facebook, you can go to Vimeo.com and search for First Baptist Church, Batesville, MS and access these studies and more. These weekly lessons average about 45 minutes (you will see Dr. Ball teaching, with his PowerPoints also appearing on screen), and there will be approximately 20 lessons in the series.
We are thankful for the way God is blessing the little studio in big ways, and we are thankful our Lord continues to use Dr. Ball to share the fruits of his lifelong study with his church and with the people of God. May our great God and Father richly bless this new teaching series.

Psalm 119:105 reminds us of the power of God’s word when he says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
How quickly Adam and Eve rebelled, Noah’s generation turned towards evil, and Noah’s great grandson’s generation was filled with pride. And these folks were instructed with God’s audible voice! How quickly we stray from God’s word, and we have access to it daily. We do not need a “how to” manual or a “self-help” book because we already have it! God’s word is powerful and “sharper than any two-edged sword.” It is our instruction manual. May we read His word and let the one true and living God speak to us!
We are “full speed ahead” upstairs in the children’s ministry, with many eager children digging into God’s word and learning doctrine. It is exciting to see them understand Jewish/Gentile truths, the power of sin and rebellion, and the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. On Wednesday nights, we have been studying the spiritual discipline of worship and prayer. They are little pipes being filled, and I know God has great plans for them as they will funnel the good news of Jesus Christ to a sin sick world. I’m encouraged that this rising generation of young people here at FBC are “getting it!”

Hey Church Family,
November is an exciting month for several reasons. First of all, we have our annual Fall Retreat November 19-21 at Camp Hopewell in Oxford, MS. This year our student ministry is partnering with First Baptist Senatobia and Liberty Hill Baptist Church. We will meet at the Family Life Center on the 19th at 6:30 pm. Students will need to have already eaten dinner. We will return on the 21st at 11:45 am. Cost for the trip is $90. Students can sign up onlin at: https://fbcbatesville.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/1016482. There is an option to pay online at sign up, pay in person the day we leave, or use bake sale money. Jeremy will have info packets available in Lee Chapel starting Wednesday, October 27th.
Halloween Party October 31st – 6:30pm – 8pm in Lee Chapel. We will have a costume contest with a prize for the winner(s). We will also have food and games for everyone!
Also, please be in prayer as we begin the upward season for the students and parents to have receptive hearts to the gospel message they will hear often. We are excited to be hosting 179 players, 26+coaches, and countless parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends. This ministry truly has a huge impact for the gospel on our community!
